The worst fear of any computer user is of course their equipment being stolen. These days there is not much you can do to prevent it but you can make it difficult for a potential thief to make off with your beloved Mac. What can you do to prepare for possible theft? Here are some tips.
1. Password protect your Mac.
Disable auto-login and make sure that no one can get into your account and all the precious data it holds.
2. Set a Firmware password for your Mac.
This will prevent anyone that does not have the Firmware password to boot up from a DVD, external drive or use Target Mode.
As the above tips cán be bypassed by a smart thief
read the below tips extra careful...
3. ALWAYS make backups!
This needs no further explaining i believe ;)
4. Install Undercover (Mac, iPhone & iPod)
Last but certainly not least have a look at Undercover.
This software is a very light background process that, once reported as stolen, will provide you with screenshots, iSight photo's of the thief (if an iSight is present), location details etc.
We definitely recommend this software as it is the best on the market and will have many more cool features to come in the future. Go to www.orbicule.com to read all about how it works and do consider using it, better safe than sorry.
