Memory (RAM)

Your Mac will greatly benefit from adding more RAM. Applications will work faster, more applications can run simultaneously, switching between applications is faster... There are no downsides to maxing out your RAM. To be able to run a decent version of OS X and run a few applications, maxing out the RAM is really the only option available.
