USB 2.0 was first introduced in Apple products with the PowerMac G5 in 2003 and has been a standard in every Desktop and Portable since. In June 2012 Apple released it's first Portable with USB 3 which is still compatible with USB 2.0. USB 2.0 features transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps (60 Megabytes per second) and can handle most devices from flash drives, cameras, printers and scanner to external hard drives. Actual data rates vary depending on how many devices are connected to the USB controller but typical data speeds when using an external hard drive are between 25-30 MB per second write and between 30-42 MB per second read. |
