When AirDrop was first introduced, it allowed easy file transfers between Macs without having to set up shared folders. Now, AirDrop works between not just Macs, but iOS devices as well. You don't have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the person you want to send files to. The devices will communicate with eachother and create their own temporary network for the file transfer. It's secure and pretty fast too. For AirDrop to work between two Macs, one of the following models is required: • MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer) Except the 17-Inch Late 2008 model. • MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer) • MacBook (Late 2008 or newer) Except the white Late 2008 model. • iMac (Early 2009 or newer) • Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer) • Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010) For AirDrop to work between a Mac and iOS device the following requirements must be met: • your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector • your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed • your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed • Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network. |
