How did appleserialnumberinfo.com get started?
Read all about this on the About page.

I don't like giving out my serial number, can you help me put my mind at ease?
  Sure, we'd be happy to!
The serial number of your Apple product contains no personal information what so ever.
Only when linked to Apple's database can information such as purchase date, warranty and name be recovered from it.
So entering your serial number here is safe. It will not be handed out to third parties.

Why am i only permitted to do 3 searches every day?
We are fully aware of how annoying this is but unfortunately at this point we do not have a choice.
First, out hosting provider uses a fair-use policy when it comes to website traffic and they feel 30+ GB
a month is not 'fair'. Because of this we pay extra to have a higher limit. With every user doing a max of
3 searches every 24 hours we are able to keep the traffic under control. We offer paid packages that will
allow any paying user to do more searches and the money we receive from that in turn pays for our
limit exceeded charges.
Second, we have noticed a lot of people ánd companies have tried to copy our database. By restricting
the searches to 3 a day we basically deny anyone that wants to copy our database to do this within the
next couple of years ;) If such a user pays for a package and searches through an account they will be
monitored, busted and banned from this website.

Why is my model / configuration not supported ?
95% of all configurations we support are from users that submit their serial number and specs to us.
If your model or configuration is not supported it simply means we have not received any or enough
info about it. Feel free to take a minute to help us out, EVERY bit of information we get helps us a lot!
Also keep in mind, a lot of invoices etc. show the serial number starting with an 'S', this 'S' is not a
part of the serial number. Try entering the serial number again without it.

Where can i find my product serial number ?
Under the Apple menu select "About this Mac", then click "More Info" to open the System Profiler.
In the hardware overview you will find your serial number.
For iPods and iPhones the serial number is printed on the back of the device.
For other devices you can usually find the serial number on a sticker somewhere on the casing,
usually the bottom of the device.

The results tell me something is CTO, what does this mean ?
CTO stands for Configured to order.
If you (or the original buyer) has requested a different size hard drive,
more RAM, glossy/matte screen etc. you'll get those values.
Any changes made to the standard configuration will make a Mac a CTO.

Most of the information shown i already know, what's the use of this ?
This is just a hobby and a fun experiment for us, that's the main use.
However we do try to put as much info in the results as possible including useful links and
reports about stolen hardware. This page might also be handy when buying a used Mac
and you want to check if it is what it's suppose to be. More info will be added in time.

The support status shows Obsolete, what does this mean ?
The support status will tell you if your mac is currently supported by Apple.
You might see the following results:
Supported: This product is fully supported by Apple, meaning parts are still
available and can be ordered through any Apple Service Provider if needed.
Vintage: The product has been discontinued more than five and less
than seven years ago and Apple has discontinued hardware services.
Very few Apple Service Providers can still order parts but they will be fairly rare and expensive.
This with the exception of products purchased in the state of California, USA, as required by statute.
Obsolete: The product has been discontinued more than seven years ago,
meaning Apple has discontinued all hardware service with no exceptions

My Mac is not a CTO but the results i get say it is, how come ?
If any information is incorrect and you are sure that your Mac's configuration has
remained unchanged since purchase then please let us know and we will get on it.
This website only shows the standard configurations of any Mac.

I have registered my product as stolen, does this guarantee i will get it back?
We wish we could make that claim but no, it does not.
However this website has become a very popular tool in the sale of used Apple products
(eBay, craigslist, etc) so if it ends up on one of those websites and a potential buyer checks the
serial number of your product it might get noticed and in turn reported to you. Any report of stolen
hardware that we receive is for this site only, we do not pass this information on to any authorities
so make sure you do file a report of the theft at your local police station.

I just found out my product has been registered as stolen, but it's not! And i did not register it as such.
Either someone made a mistake and accidentally mistyped their serialnumber, is playing a prank on you or maybe you just purchased the product and did not know it was stolen. Either way contact the E-Mail address that is listed in the report to ask for clarification. If you don't get a reply you can email us a copy of your receipt to verify you are in fact the legal owner of that product, we will then remove the report.
